The former governor was speaking at a Christmas Ballad he organized, an event that saw the gathering of major political players in the state.
Although it was supposed not to be a political event, speakers after speakers took turns to comment on the lingering crisis that is tearing the oil-rich state apart since last year.
Recall that Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, have been at odds, with Wike fighting to control the state’s political structures from his Abuja office as President Bola Tinubu’s Minister of Federal Capital Territory.
“You confronted the political challenge, prevented the quest by one man to capture the state as a private estate, emancipated Rivers people, steadied governance, and made civil servants and Rivers people happier,” Odili praised Fubara while clearly singling out Wike as the bad egg of Rivers State politics.
He went down the memory lane, detailed how Wike has waged “unnecessary [fight]” against “the soul of Rivers State” and concluded that he and his family would continue to support Governor Fubara.
On her part, wife of the former governor, Justice Mary Odili, presented gifts to Fubara and his family, calling him “emancipator” while also pledging to fight alongside him to save the Rivers from Wike.
Governor Siminalayi Fubara, beaming with smiles for the obvious boost of strength against his arc-adversary, was thankful, and pledged he would not let his people down.
“So, it is not me being strong. My strength is drawn from every one of you that is here. You gave me the encouragement; you do the work for me; you make the calls for me. So, why won’t I stand up for you?” Fubara said.
