Outbreak of deadly cholera has continued to dominate headlines as it claims more lives by the day, across the nation.

An X user took to her handle to share the passing of her aunt who just returned to Nigeria from Canada last week. She fell sick, with all the symptoms typical of cholera – severe purging, vomiting, and weakness – present before she eventually gave up.

TheMail reported that National Biosafety Management Agency (NBMA) announced last week that a whooping number of 1,141 Nigerians are facing death posed by cholera, with 30 deaths already recorded.

Abia, Imo, Cross River, Bauchi, Delta, Katsina, Zamfara, Bayelsa, Nasarawa, and Lagos are the most affected states for now, authorities said. But Federal Government says it is doing its best to contain the spread even as it and experts urge the public to prioritize personal hygiene and to be on alert for the symptoms.

Cholera is a highly contagious waterborne disease caused by the Vibrio cholerae bacterium. Its symptoms include watery diarrhea, vomiting, and dehydration. It kills faster if not promptly and properly treated.

As at the time of reporting, no details about the dead woman was yet disclosed.
