Ripples, as IBB’s book pitches Osibanjo against the Presidency

More news breaking about Yemi Osibanjo clash with the presidency over his review of IBB's autobiography

Former Vice President, Yemi Osibanjo, is a liar, the presidency said today. While reviewing the newly-published autobiography of Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida (IBB), Osibanjo cast the former military leader as Nigeria’s enemy of democracy. The former vice president recalled that president Bola Tinubu rose against the military junta after IBB annulled June 12 presidential election.

IBB had replied with force against Tinunu, and greatly tormented him and his fellow pro-democracy activists of the time.

But Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, disagreed with Osibanjo.

“I think the former Vice President got it wrong. Babangida was not really a tormentor of President Tinubu,” Onanuga said today, during an appearance on Sunrise Daily.

What Yemi Osibanjo said at IBB’s book launch

Yemi Osibanjo, former Vice President’s review of IBB’s book clearly shows he sided with President Bola Tinubu. Osibanjo said that IBB was one of those who tormented Tinubu during the military era.

But Onanuga, the major presidency’s image-maker, countered Osibanjo in a national television. In his words, IBB was, instead, the greatest factor in Tinubu’s rise in politics.

There is no proof, but the argument between the two men, is not actually a mere contradiction. No matter how bad he may have behaved during his days as the military Head of State, IBB is still an important figure in the North today.

No one has ever ruled Nigeria without the maximum support of the North. Just as no one has ever survived being removed from power when he incured the region’s displeasure.

By this time next year, President Bola Tinubu will have walked many miles into the road for reelection. For what reason would he want to present himself – in the North’s eyes – as someone at odd with IBB?
