• More on how Free VeryDarkMan protests hit Edo, Abuja
Yet another layer of confusion is added to the case of VeryDarkMan, popular online personality.
A Fulani herdsman took to his X handle, fervently calling on the authorities to release the embattled critic. The Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) has arrested him days ago in a manner that reportedly resembled criminal abduction.
Hours later the anti-graft agency admitted that VeryDarkMan was with them. He has had petitions against him from multiple individuals, EFCC said.
His arrest since set the internet ablaze, with thousands of netizens as well as prominent Nigerians calling for his release.
Ace Afrobeat singer, David Adeleke (a.k.a Davido) and celebrity socialite Cubana Chief Priest have joined the call to free VeryDarkMan. Peter Obi, the Labour Party presidential candidate in the 2023 election, has also condemned the arrest.
Youths organised protests in Abuja yesterday, and others are now protesting in Edo State to demand the release of the fearless social critic.
However, none of this pressure attracted the kind of attention more than the voice of a Fulani herdsman.

In the video that’s now going viral, the herdsman speaks with his cows in the background.
From the netizens’ reactions its obvious that no one has yet understood the meaning of the video.
Fulani herdsmen have gained notoriety since the days of former President Muhammadu Buhari as killers. They’ve continued to kill even to this day all across Nigeria.
The video could be a ploy the authorities want to use to frame VeryDarkMan. EFCC has already said he was under investigation for crimes based on “sundry issues.”
But the Fulani herdsman’s call could also be part of the wide public appeal the vocal critic enjoys across Nigeria.
