Biafra: Nwanjoku storms markets and streets, urges Aninri residents to disregard sit-at-home

The Chairman of Aninri local government area, Prince Ugo Nwanjoku, has stormed streets, markets and schools in Aninri, urging residents to disregard sit-at-home directive by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

Nwanjoku, who was at the council headquarters yesterday, was seen walking, chatting with traders and passerbys at Ndeabor, Oduma and Nenwe communities.

IPOB has declared 2-day total lockdown in entire South East region starting yesterday.

The Mail reliably gathered that, at the urging of Prince Nwanjoku, residents of Aninri – earlier hiding indoor for fear – were emboldened and went about their normal businesses yesterday.

There are no reports of clash between the separatist group and the security forces in Aninri.

“We’re happy with the type of a person he [Nwanjoku) is. Fearless and bold,” said HRH Igwe Dan Okechukwu Njoku, the chairman Aninri traditional rulers council.

“The fact that he isn’t leading from the back is entirely gratifying and it gives us confidence,” Igwe Njoku added, calling the council chairman “the true son of His Excellency Governor Peter Mbah.”

Recall that Governor Peter Mbah banned sit-at-home order in Enugu immediately he assumed office last year.

He personally walked the streets, the markets, the schools in Enugu metropolis, practically ensuring compliance. At Ogbete Market, he had faced resistance which led to violent clash that left a lot of people dead with properties worth several hundreds of millions damaged.

Since then, the governor has enforced unprecedented crackdown on criminal elements in the state and proceeded to tighten security along the way.

“The security we’re about to enjoy under Nwanjoku is expected,” a PDP chieftain from the zone said. “He learns the lope from the true leader, Governor Peter Mbah.”
