The Aninri chapter of National Union of Teachers (NUT) has cleared the public on their members’ relationship with the council chairman.
Weeks ago, Prince Ugochukwu Nwanjoku faced waves of baseless but intense criticism from dissents in the area. Among other things, they were accusing the council chairman of withholding teachers’ salaries and neglecting primary schools across the zone.
But that is not true, the teachers said. Speaking for themselves during a solidarity visit to the chairman yesterday, they said they have been “properly and promptly” paid.
“We have always said it with our respective voices, and today we want to speak about it together,” NUT chairman said.
“Since the inception of this administration, no teacher is owe. We have been receiving our salaries, leave allowances and overhead costs. And we want to use this opportunity to thank the Mayor (Prince Ugochukwu Nwanjoku) for his wonderful policies in education sector.
“Well, we are not politicians. We are not adept in propaganda and, in fact, we do not want to understand it. But it is our humble suggestion that those who are using the union’s name for political manipulations should please stop.
“Prince Ugochukwu Nwanjoku has been paying us. And we appreciate him profoundly,” the union added.
Prince Nwanjoku has pursued radical transformation in the council since his assuming office last October. His strides in the areas of employment and infrastructure are so visible that even his critics are stunned and have nothing to say.
However, the public appeared to have believed the lies told about his education policies until the NUT’s clarification.
